On October 15th 2014, the salon celebrates its 22nd anniversary! In 1992, Richard and his wife Hellen bought the ailing Neville Daniel Salon in Knightsbridge from the receivers and set about creating the Richard Ward brand.
"It's so wonderful that Julie, our General Manager and Fiona, our Creative Director are still working along side us, 22 years later. Shortly after that, other long standing team members, Mario (Technical Director), Robert (Creative Director), Maria (Premier Technician) and Nando (Education Director) along side Gavin (Salon Manager of course) also started working with us to help us create and build the salon as it is today. We are so proud to be celebrating our 22nd anniversary and thank so many of the clients that have been with us right from the beginning, along with our newer clients who all help us to make the Richard Ward environment special." - Richard Ward
In April 2011, the Richard Ward Artistic Team had the honour and privilege of styling the hair of the Royal Wedding party.
Richard assisted then-Creative Director James Pryce in creating HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s Demi-Chignon. Creative Director Fiona Chandler-Day styled Pippa Middleton’s hair and fellow Creative Director Adolfo Vollono styled Carole Middleton’s hair for the wedding itself. Richard then re-styled and created the evening looks for Carole and Pippa Middleton for the wedding breakfast.
Creative Director Fabio Bonelli styled the hair for The Countess of Wessex, both for the day and the evening.
Other members of the Artistic Team who were involved with styling the hair for the bridesmaids and other members of the wedding party included: Creative Director Robert Gibbs, Senior Stylist Sabrina Thompson, Senior Stylist Sonia Jittla and Stylist James Foster.
On Tuesday 24th January 2012, Hellen launched her series of three books for salon and spa managers looking to improve their management skills. The books, published by City & Guilds, cover topics like managing teams, recruitment, understanding finances and building customer loyalty.
Watched on by the great and the good of British hairdressing, Hellen and Gill Pope, Education Director for L’Oreal Professional Products, were interviewed by Diane Mitchell, City & Guilds Portfolio Manager for Hairdressing. Hellen explained how important she thinks it is for the industry to increase its business acumen, invest in staff and focus on customers. The interview was followed by questions from the floor, which included journalists from all the leading industry publications.
Hellen donated all proceeds from the night, more than £700, to HairRaising for Great Ormond Street — a cause close to her and Richard's hearts. A raffle for HABB (Hair & Beauty Benevolent) also raised much needed funds for a wonderful cause.
The USM books are on sale now.
Hellen is so excited to be hosting the official launch party for her series of books — Getting Established, Managing Finances & Team Performance — at the salon on Tuesday 24th January 2012. Hellen is being interviewed by the marvellous Gill Pope, Director of Education for L'Oréal and the lovely Diane Mitchell, Hairdressing Portfolio Manager for City & Guilds. Hellen is also launching her brand new 2012 live education to accompany the book series, with her accompanying software packages to follow shortly.
